Week 1- Introduction to Hoop Dance
Topics covered will include the benefits of hooping as an exercise and tool for meditation. There will be an introduction to hoops, how they're made, what the different materials and sizes mean, and which one is right for each student. Students will have an opportunity to practice with different sizes and weights of hoops. Also, students will learn what to expect for each class, best clothing to wear for
hooping, and the instructor will address questions. Finally, students will practice hooping around the waist using a two-point push method until they are quite comfortable with their progress.
Week 2- Moving and Turning
This class will build upon the last practice of waist hooping and introduce moving, walking, and turning with the hoop. Hooping in opposite directions and redirecting the hoop will be addressed as well. If progress permits, breaks will be addressed as well.
Week 3- Horizontal and Vertical planes
This class will introduce the hoop in different perspective: in the vertical plane. Students will learn how to move the hoop on hands and arms in the vertical plane as well as weaves and other off-body tricks. If progress permit, transition from the vertical plane to the horizontal plane will be addressed.
Week 4- On-Body vs. Off-Body hooping
This class will introduce more tricks on the body and off the body as well as how to transition between the two. New tricks introduced in this class will include knee hooping, chest hooping, coin flips, spins, and tosses. Time permitting, routines or "combos" will be demonstrated and practiced.
Week 5- Combos
This class will focus on taking all the previous tricks and transitions learned and combine them into a hoop dance routine. Time will permit to practice the routine. Tips will be addressed for creating ones own personal routine. If progress permits, a couple more intermediate level tricks may be introduced.
